Getting to the Courthouse

By MBTA

Woburn District Court is accessible by Bus 134 and Bus 354 of the MBTA.

The court is also accessible using the Lowell line of the MBTA, with the closest stop at Winchester Center Station, though a taxi is needed to reach the courthouse from there.

Parking

Parking can be tight around the courthouse, but there is a free parking lot directly across the street. A lot of people don't realize how far back that lot continues — even when it looks full from the road, if you keep driving toward the back you are likely to find an open space.

Your First Day at Woburn District Court: Step-by-Step

Get to the courthouse by 8:30. Parking is tough here, and you want time to find a space, get through security, and check in before the session starts.

When you come through the front door, you go through the metal detectors first. Directly in front of you is the first session courtroom. A small foyer has been built onto the front of it, so what you are actually looking at is a short wall — the doors into the first session are at either end of it.

To the left is the Probation Office. If you are there for an arraignment, this is where you check in on your first day. You only check in with probation on the arraignment date — you do not need to do this every time you come to court.

To the right is the Clerk's Office. The trial courtrooms are upstairs, and the bathrooms are downstairs.

A Word About the Courtroom Itself

The court officers in Woburn can be strict about people talking in the gallery. You do not want to be scolded in front of the judge who is about to hear your case, so don't try to have a conversation with anyone while you are in the courtroom. If you need to talk something over with us, we can step out into the hallway.

If You Are There for a Clerk-Magistrate Hearing

Check in at the Clerk's Office and they will tell you where to go. Clerk's hearings in Woburn are generally held in a room on the second floor. There are benches in the second-floor hallway where you can sit and wait for your hearing to be called.

Woburn is one of the oldest communities in New England, settled in 1640. Today it sits at the junction of Route 128 (I-95) and I-93, one of the most heavily traveled highway interchanges in Massachusetts. The jurisdiction includes a mix of residential neighborhoods alongside significant commercial and business development. Burlington, also part of this court's jurisdiction, is home to the Burlington Mall.
