Middlesex DUIL Program (Second Offender 14-Day Residential)

The 14-day residential program for a second OUI conviction, an alternative to a 30-day incarceration period. Operated by Middlesex Human Service Agency and licensed by DPH BSAS. Founded in 1985. Referrals come by direct referral from the Massachusetts Trial Court; the program also serves 18 to 21 year old first offenders under Melanie's Law and accepts self-referrals.
Some things people get wrong: the program sits on the Tewksbury State Hospital grounds but is not part of the hospital. It is not a detox and not a medical facility, so anyone needing detox must get it beforehand, and clients bring their own medications. There is a breathalyzer on arrival, and a refusal or positive reading means no admission. Do not drive yourself, because the license is suspended by then and the car will be towed. Admissions run on a Sunday cycle with an assigned reporting time. Most insurance does not cover it, and proof of completion is withheld until the balance is paid. The 14 days are only the first phase; aftercare runs weekly and then monthly to the end of the probation term.
