About the Roxbury Division

The Boston Municipal Court Department has 30 judges across eight divisions serving the City of Boston. The Roxbury Division, at 85 Warren Street, serves Roxbury. This division handles the overwhelming majority of criminal cases from start to finish, including arraignments, bail hearings, pretrial conferences, motions, and trials. The courthouse also houses a Mental Health Court program, an alternative track for eligible defendants dealing with mental health issues.

If you served in the military, the Boston Veterans Treatment Court sits at the Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and a case from the Roxbury Division may be able to transfer there. Learn how we represent veterans.

The Roxbury Division is one of eight Boston Municipal Court divisions in Suffolk County. See our overview of Suffolk County criminal courts for the others, Chelsea District Court, and Suffolk Superior Court.

Roxbury is a historic center of Boston's African-American community. Malcolm X lived in the neighborhood as a young man, and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. preached at Twelfth Baptist Church in Roxbury while studying at Boston University. Nubian Square (formerly Dudley Square) is the neighborhood's commercial and civic heart, and has seen ongoing revitalization in recent years.
