About the East Boston Division

The Boston Municipal Court Department has 30 judges across eight divisions serving the City of Boston. The East Boston Division, at 37 Meridian Street, serves East Boston, Winthrop, Logan International Airport, and the Sumner and Callahan Tunnels. This division handles the overwhelming majority of criminal cases from start to finish, including arraignments, bail hearings, pretrial conferences, motions, and trials. The courthouse also houses an Adult Drug Court program, an alternative track for eligible defendants dealing with substance use issues.

If you served in the military, the Boston Veterans Treatment Court sits at the Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and a case from the East Boston Division may be able to transfer there. Learn how we represent veterans.

Suffolk County courts include the eight Boston Municipal Court divisions and Chelsea District Court. Our Suffolk County court guide explains which one handles each community.

Logan International Airport occupies roughly half of East Boston's land area. The neighborhood has been an immigrant gateway for nearly two centuries, historically home to Irish, Jewish, and Italian communities, and today more than half of its residents are Latino, with large Colombian, Salvadoran, and Guatemalan populations.

Your Next Steps If You’ve Been Arrested

If you have just been arrested, released, or received a summons, take a breath. Here is what you need to do right now.

● Don't talk to police without a lawyer present -- you have the right to remain silent and you should use it

● Don't discuss your case with anyone except your attorney

● Don't contact any alleged victims or witnesses

● Preserve any evidence that might help your defense: photos, text messages, surveillance footage, witness contact information

● Write down everything you remember about what happened while it is still fresh

● Don't post anything about your case on social media

● Follow all court orders and conditions of release exactly

● Contact an experienced Massachusetts criminal defense attorney as soon as possible
