About the Charlestown Division

The Boston Municipal Court Department has 30 judges across eight divisions serving the City of Boston. The Charlestown Division, at 3 City Square, serves Charlestown. This division handles the overwhelming majority of criminal cases from start to finish, including arraignments, bail hearings, pretrial conferences, motions, and trials.

If you served in the military, the Boston Veterans Treatment Court sits at the Central Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and a case from the Charlestown Division may be able to transfer there. Learn how we represent veterans.

The Charlestown Division is one of eight divisions of the Boston Municipal Court. Our Suffolk County page shows which court serves each Boston neighborhood, plus Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop.

The courthouse also houses an Adult Drug Court program, an alternative track for eligible defendants dealing with substance use issues.

Charlestown is Boston's oldest neighborhood, home to the Charlestown Navy Yard and Bunker Hill Community College, and has shifted from a historically working-class Irish-American community to one of the city's more affluent, gentrifying areas tied to Navy Yard redevelopment. The Division's docket draws cases connected to Bunker Hill Community College, the Charlestown Navy Yard and the USS Constitution, and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.
